Merrillville - Star Plaza Theatre - Indiana Ballet Theatre NW Presents "The Nutcracker" accompanied by the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra. For more than a Decade, the Indiana Ballet Theatre Northwest has provided residents of the region with some of the finest dance presentations anywhere in the Midwest. It now continues that traditional with its upcoming presentation of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker". This holiday favorite of all ages will be presented at four special performances at the Star Plaza Theatre in Merrillville. The first showing of the Nutcracker took place on December 18, 1892, at the Marinsky Theatre of Russia, home of the Kirov Ballet. Since that time it has grown in popularity around the globe, becoming for many families as much a part of the Christmas season as the holiday itself. IBT's presentation will feature some of the most talented and gifted dancers in the area. Performers include dancers ranging in age from 4 years old to adult, and represent over 50 schools from across the region.
